Kendrick Lamar Defends Jay Z’s Success In Hip-Hop

Kendrick Lamar is growing into a successful artist by the day, but he doesn’t forget to give credit where it’s due. During his interview with Bullett magazine, the TDE member praised Jay Z’s longstanding career. He commended him for his achievements and saluted him for his contributions to hip-hop. “I salute people like Jay Z,” Lamar said. “How many tours has he been on? How many verses has he put down? How many interviews? How many radio shows? People forget that.”

Lamar added Hov’s detractors come from the fact they can’t imagine someone from the Marcy Projects is making million dollar business deals. Hip-hop history shows Jay was committed to become the next big thing. He argues rap fans seem to forget that sometimes. “They can’t fathom how a dude from the Marcy Projects is sitting next to Barack Obama. So they make up all types of crazy sh*t and forget the facts: This nigga dedicated every single day of his life to this, and what he has wasn’t just given to him. It’s no mistake he’s at where he’s at.”

Lil Wayne's "I Am Not A Human Being II" is baller-blocked by Justin Timberlake's "20/20 Experience." Drake's "Take Care" soars up the charts in chase of two million, and Notorious B.I.G. appears.

As projected, Justin Timberlake did not budge—not even for Lil Wayne, with his 20/20 Experience. The former N*Sync front-man maintained a #1 spot, smashing the million-sold benchmark as easily predicted. One of music's biggest stars and centered around a month-long media blitz concerning his health, Lil Wayne landed comfortably at #2 with I Am Not A Human Being II, the sequel to his late 2010 Rock/Rap experiment.

Also making the charts was Strange Music's Punk-inspired duo, Ces Cru. The Kansas City, Missouri natives' first full-length, a self-titled effort, conquered the Top 100. Sixteen years to the month from when he was tragically murdered in Los Angeles, California, one of Hip Hop's lyrical giants, The Notorious B.I.G. also popped back into the Top 200, with Bad Boy Records' Greatest Hits project.
Lil Wayne Says I Am Not A Human Being, Again

I Am Not A Human Being II, Lil Wayne's tenth solo full-length, sold over 200,000 units. That achievement was still over 100,000 units behind Justin Timberlake's 20/20 Experience, denying Weezy his first #1, since 2010's The Rebirth also came in at #2. This effort did out-sell its I Am Not A Human Being predessor by 100,000 first-week units. However, that 2010 effort was a digital exclusive upon release, with no physical CDs until later.

Wayne's latest featured YMCMB's Drake, Gudda Gudda and throwback Boo (of early '00s Cash Money duo Boo & Gotti), however Mr. Carter opened up the personnel to include former lover Trina, Juicy J, Gunplay and even Soulja Boy, among others. This album includes early glimpse "Love Me" and street effort, "Rich As fu-k." The Deluxe Version includes the Young Money & G.O.O.D Music olive-branch effort, "My Homies Still," with Big Sean.
Drake's Take Care Climbs 50 Spots, Nearly Crosses 2 Million Mark

As the rollout for third studio album, Nothing Was The Same is underway, Drake's 2011 sophomore, Take Care continues to tackle the charts. The effort shot up to #75 from #126 the previous week, more than doubling its previous week sales. The Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Motown flagship release is on the heels of 2 million certified sales. This far exceeds Drake's 2010 debut, Thank Me Later, which crossed the 1.5 million mark, just over a year ago.
